We continue our Portimao 2 day tour - day 2 now and day 16 of our Algarve tour. Waking up with the sound of the waves crashing on the shore has to be one of the most relaxing moments I’ve had in the Algarve and I was glad I was able to experience it once again in Portimão.
I had a boat trip to Silves scheduled for the day but before that, I decided to pay a visit to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. This race circuit has been open since 2008 and includes a race track, a go-kart track, a hotel and a sports complex.
Algarve Lifestyle booked me a Porsche experience so I had the chance to drive around the tracks with a professional instructor in one of the fastest cars of their racing school! It was hard getting back to my rental car after driving one of those, but I had a cruise waiting for me at the Marina of Portimão.
I got on board at noon and sailed along the Arade river towards Silves. On the way, the team of Alvor Boat Trips served a delicious 3-course meal with drinks, whilst sharing their knowledge of the area.
And suddenly, there it was again, the castle of Silves rising above the hills. We stopped in Silves for 2 hours and I walked around the village once more, visiting the cathedral and exploring the narrow streets. Since the boat was solar powered it made very little noise passing through, allowing us to hear the wildlife around us. At 5 pm we were back where we started, at the Marina of Portimão.
I spent the rest of the afternoon at Praia da Rocha, the beach facing my hotel. When the sun was about to set I went up to the Fort of Santa Catarina to get an even better view of the coast.
I had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Vista. The restaurant has earned a Michelin star and is led by the Chef João Oliveira. I picked the Vanguard menu, which included 8 dishes, combining both seafood and meat dishes as a main and finishing off with a pudding, known as the 'Abade de Priscos’ pudding, all beautifully assembled on a plate.
The meal was the perfect ending to my stay in Portimão and I’m already looking forward to seeing what the next town on my tour, Lagos, has to offer.
